Grand Junction Plaza: Creating the heart of a growing city

Grand Junction Plaza is the new heart of downtown Westfield, Indiana — a 7.8-acre remediated park at the center of the city’s development plan that forms a civic hub for an active community.

Inspired by Westfield’s history and vision for the future, BMD created the park’s vibrant brand identity, a flexible and adaptable communications system and a signage system that evolves with the park over time.

The logo gestures the shape of the park itself, while a colorful icon system showcases the dynamic, year-round set of community programming. Each event is granted its own unique sub-brand to connect it with the greater park identity.

The visual identity echoes David Rubin Land Collective’s nuanced landscape scheme of layered natural and built systems, as well as the layers of social and community activity.

The signage system uses Corten steel, a nod to the city’s historical railways. Signage is oriented in the direction of pedestrian pathways with stacked pillars helping visitors navigate the spaces. The materials will patina over time, evolving as the park grows.
